The Eye Bank Association of America (EBAA) recognized the absence of a scientific publication dedicated to eye banking and corneal transplantation. Just as corneal transplantation has undergone a revolution over the last two decades, from largely penetrating keratoplasty to endothelial keratoplasty, the scientific literature has flourished to explore the new world of endothelial keratoplasty, ranging from tissue preparation, storage media, insertion devices, and surgical techniques. Of course, Rho-kinase inhibitors, cell culture studies, eye banking beyond the cornea, and more novel topics are also being studied. With the breadth and volume of questions being asked and answered, IJEB has transitioned to its 2.0 stage as Eye Banking and Corneal Transplantation (EBCT).
